Situated 45km south-west of Johannesburg, the South Deep Gold Mine is an intermediate-to-deep gold mine comprising two shaft systems – the older South Shaft complex with its main shaft and two sub-vertical shafts, and the newer complex known as Twin Shafts.
Byrnecut undertook a 12-month development trial to assist the client to find ways to improve the productivity of its mining fleet, while reducing costs and improving safety standards.
Byrnecut’s scope of works included decline and lateral development, along with fleet maintenance and workforce training.
