Byrnecut was successful In winning the four year, $440M underground mining services contract at Saracen's Carosue Dam Operations through a competitive open tender process.
Byrnecut operates the projects from a centralised operations base at Carosue Dam, 120km east of Kalgoorlie WA. A modern large scale workshop facility undertakes major and minor maintenance on the collective mining fleet.
The contract encompasses two mining centres - Carosue Dam, comprising the Karari and Whirling Dervish mines, and Deep South, 100km north.
The Carosue Dam mines utilise emulsion explosives with production charging being undertaken by Orica using an MCU on a subcontract basis. Deep South is an ANFO operation.
New technology and innovation is key at the project. An extensive Sandvik Automine network enables the fleet of LH621i loaders to be operate autonomously from the surface. A dedicated Rhino box-hole drill, truck driver fatigue monitoring and collision avoidance systems also play pivotal roles at the operation.
The contract provides employment for over 300 personnel, working 365 days per year, 24 hours per day.
Access to site is via unsealed roads from Kalgoorlie, and Leonora, with a site airstrip operational since 2019. Personnel currently commute to site on a FIFO basis directly to CDO, or by road from Kalgoorlie.
