Two mines - Degrussa and Monty

Byrnecut commenced operations at Sandfire Resources’ Degrussa copper mine in July 2014, after acquiring the contract through an open tender process.

The Degrussa underground mine is a high grade copper deposit and commenced operation in 2012. The mine comprises over 38km of underground development and produces 1.5 million tonnes of copper ore for up to 300,000 tonnes of high grade copper concentrate per year.

The contract encompasses two high grade copper mines; the original Degrussa mine, and Monty, 20km away. Monty Is managed and operated as a satellite project from the main Degrussa hub.

Byrnecut undertakes all underground development and production activities including fibrecrete application, long-hole stoping, CAF and paste fill operations. Extraction from open stopes is conducted using Caterpillar autonomous operation loaders. With mine life estimated for an additional 2 years Byrnecut expect to remain for the duration.

The mine operates 365 days per year, 24 hours per day with sealed road access from Perth. Byrnecut operate on a fly-in, fly-out basis from Perth with the contract providing employment for 216 personnel.
