Byrnecut’s professionalism and customer relationships were key elements in its selection by Saracen Metals’ to develop its new underground mine at the Thunderbox operations in central Western Australia.
The Thunderbox mine is destined to be a major underground gold mine for Saracen Metals. The initial contract will see the establishment of the underground mining infrastructure, portals, exploration decline, drill drives, ventilation rises and escape-ways.
Trial longhole stoping is expected near the end of the contract term.
Byrnecut was selected from a shortlist of contractors through a competitive tender process, building on the successful relationship established with Saracen at the Carosue Dam Operations, 200km to the south.
The exploration decline contract will provide employment for around 50 personnel, working 365 days per year, 24 hours per day.
Thunderbox is expected to transition into a large, modern, sub-level caving operation, and we are pleased to partner with Saracen, facilitating their achievement in becoming a large, multi-mine, Australian gold producer.
As an established open-pit operation, an airstrip and camp are already onsite at Thunderbox. Access to the site is via predominantly sealed roads from Kalgoorlie, or Leinster, with personnel currently commuting to site on a fly-in fly-out basis from Perth.
